KOJAIN 2008 Scholarship Program
KOJAIN is soliciting candidates for the 2008 Scholarships. Criteria and submission requirements for the Scholarship are listed below.
All North American Kachchhi Oswal Jain students,
entering first-year college/university by fall 2008 and whose Parents are
current KOJAIN member, are eligible.
All applicants must:
1. Be a current high school senior. Each applicant must submit a 4-year high school transcript including the 2007-2008 school year. Photocopies are acceptable. If mailed by school, the transcript must still be post-marked by July 20, 2008. Graduating GPA must be calculated and provided on a 4.0 non-weighted scale.
2. Provide one written recommendation and character reference from a teacher, counselor, friend, or a KOJAIN member (not related to applicant). Recommendation must be submitted with the application package.
3. List and briefly describe awards and/or extracurricular services and activities on a separate page. Please provide enough information so that the selection committee will understand the nature of your services and activities.
4. Provide your email address. We will email you to acknowledge the receipt of your completed application and also to provide the results of the competition. All applicants will be notified by August 21, 2008.
5. Write an essay in which you develop your point of view on any one of the five issues presented below. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, or observations. The typed (double-spaced) essay must be at least 800 words but, must not exceed 1000 words in Times New Roman Font, 12 point.
a) What are some of the best ways to welcome and then assimilate immigrants into American life? What are the pros & cons of each of these?
b) What do you hope to achieve in your personal & professional life after college?
c) What are the causes of & effects of the computer revolution in daily life?
d) If, after college graduation, you are offered a job of your liking in India, would you accept?
e) Today, environmental problems are too big to be managed by an individual person or individual countries. In other words, it is an international problem. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
6. Provide results of American College Testing (ACT) or Scholastic Aptitude Testing (SAT).
