KOJAIN Merit Scholarship
KOJAIN is soliciting candidates for the 2009 Scholarships. Criteria and submission requirements for the Scholarship are listed below.
A onetime KOJAIN Merit
Scholarship is awarded each year to the KOJAIN students, residing in North
America, graduating from High School and entering a college/university for
higher studies in North America. Scholarships are awarded during 3rd Quarter of
each year. Merit Scholarship Program provides recognition and encouragement to
the high school graduating North American
students.
All North America Kachchhi Oswal Jain community students, entering first-year college / university are eligible. KOJAIN membership of Parents must be current. Scholarship rules are described in the Scholarship Committee Program Details.
KOJAIN 2009 Scholarship Program
KOJAIN is soliciting candidates for the 2009 Merit Scholarships. Criteria and submission requirements for the Scholarship are listed below.
All
North American Kachchhi Oswal Jain
students, entering first-year college/university by fall 2009 and whose
Parents are current KOJAIN member, are only eligible to receive the
Merit Scholarship.
All applicants must:
1. Be a current high school senior. Each applicant must
submit a 4-year high school
transcript including the 2008 -2009 school year. Photocopies are
acceptable. If mailed by
school, the transcript must still be post-marked by July 25, 2009. Graduating GPA must
be calculated and provided on a 4.0 non-weighted scale.
2. Provide one written recommendation and character
reference from a teacher, counselor,
friend, or a KOJAIN member (not related to applicant). Recommendation
must be
submitted with the application package.
3. List and briefly describe awards and/or
extracurricular services and activities on a
separate page. Please provide enough information so that the selection
committee will
understand the nature of your services and activities.
4. Provide your email address. We will email you to
acknowledge the receipt of your
completed application and also to provide the results of the competition.
All applicants will
be notified by August 30, 2009.
5. Write an essay in which
you develop your point of view on any one of
the five topics
presented below. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken
from your
reading, studies, experience, or observations. The typed
(double-spaced) essay must be at
least 800 words but, must not exceed 1000 words in Times New Roman Font,
12 point.
1) Your views on Kachchhi culture, customs,
rituals, beliefs, conducts, fitting in the current
society, etc.
2) History of Kachchh, Kachchhi community, origin and roots, past,
present and future
3) What new activities or
projects KOJAIN should pursue? Why and how? How can you help
in these projects?
4) Environmental issues affecting present day India and practical
solutions
5) What are your personal & professional objectives and goals after
graduating? What are your
plans to achieve those?
6. Provide results of American College Testing (ACT) or Scholastic Aptitude Testing (SAT).
Please mail all materials and two passport size photographs in one package,
unfolded in a
9" by 12" (or larger) envelope postmarked by July 25, 2009 to:
