Established on the auspicious day of Labh Pancham of Sawant Year 1972 viz in 1915 in a rented premises at Matunga, Mumbai, with two students,Shri Hirji Bhojraj & Sons Cutchi Visha Chhatralaya, popularly known as Matunga Boarding is the backbone of the Cutchi Visha Oswal Jain Community.

Initiated and Inspired by Shri Velji Lakhamshi Napu and other philanthropic foresighted leaders of the community, Matunga Boarding has looked after about 8000 students by providing them with education and training in various arts and crafts during the past 88 years.

In or about 1931, Shri Nanji Hirji Bhojraj and Shri Ratanshi Hirji Bhojraj donated a sum of Rs.1,25000/- to the Institution on certain terms and conditions inter alia to give to the Institution the name of their father, that is Shri Hirji Bhojraj. The Institution is since then known as Shri Hirji Bhojraj & Sons Cutchi Visha Oswal Jain Chhatralaya.

In 1945, a handsome donation of Rs.81,001/- was received from Shri Hirji Ghelabhai Savla and the Gujarati medium secondary school attached to the Institution, known as Shri Ghelabhai Savla Vidhyalaya and Chhatralya for our students in Gujarati medium & English medium was started.

During the past 88 years, the Institution received several donations with the co-operation of the Cutchi Visha Oswal community.

The second phase of the construction will be having vocational training classes and advance computer academy and other educational classes etc.

In this reconstruction of their Alma-mater, the cost of which is about 10 crores, the past students of the Institution have decided to donate Rs. 5.25 crores as a matter of gratitude, without any conditions.

As you are aware we are having Chhatralya (hostel) for the high school students. On an average, we are having 250 residential borders. About 200 students in Gujrati medium are staying in the boarder and attending the English medium high School near by Amulakh Amichand Vivdhlakshi Vidhyalaya.

Normally our result of the Secondary School Certificate Examination (S.S.C) are about 95 %. This year 40 students appeared in the S.S.C. Examination and 39 passed. In English medium 3 students appeared and all three passed. After passing from our Chhatralaya about 80% students are joining the colleges in mainly Commerce Stream and some are joining in Science Stream. Approximately from this boys about 35% will be completing their graduation.

The details of the income & expenditure and 2nd phase of the construction has been sent in e-mail dated 01.07.2003 & 02.07.2003.
